I honestly never thought I'd see the day that Evangelion would be able to be viewed legally on a streaming service, much less Netflix. Over the past two or so years, Netflix has been trying to win the hearts of anime fans by dubbing shows like 'Little Witch Academia', and by having a part in the production of 'Devilman: Crybaby' amongst other things. And while rescuing a show that has been in licensing hell for nearly two decades that is beloved by anime fans internationally seems like an amazing idea, it wasn't without it's controversies. One major controversy being the fact that there will be a newly produced dub by Netflix, and none of the original cast will be involved. For those who didn't watch the dub, and instead watched it subtitled or raw, this won't be much of an issue. But for a lot of fans, including myself (to a certain extent), this is a sad revelation. But generally, I feel as though the current fanbase of Evangelion is grown up enough to realize it's not that big of a deal. And overall, Netflix aquiring Evangelion is much better than it just not being re-released at all in any form. And with a bit of hope, Netflix might even make it an option to be able to view the orginal ADV English dub. But who knows, that might just be wishful thinking.
